Galway

After failing to print my final SSP paper early Friday morning, I took the train with Brooke all the way to the other side of the island which takes an appalling 2.5 hours.  For whatever reason the Irish seem to hate traveling for long periods of time.  When we got to Galway, we grabbed lunch and then found our way to our B&B.  There we met a huge and adorable ham of a dog named Max.

Having dropped off our bags in our room, we attempted to take the purported 20-25 minute walk to the city center.  It took us a good 45 minutes not including the time we spent taking mermaid pictures or being slightly confused about which way to go.

gotta love Irish warning signs

we also watched people hand feed swans

It was a beautiful afternoon and we looked at the bay and the coast.  And there was an oyster festival!! In generous form, here are the picture before, during, and after of me having a fresh Galway oyster.  I messed up because I put the lemon juice on it and then dumped out all of the water, so I unintentionally dumped out the lemon juice too.  It was a little salty at the end.
oyster festival!

a little salty

no $20, but still successful

Galway is a charming city.  Liz, Matt, and Kyle came in around 5 and we went out to dinner.  Appropriately, I had a Shepperd's Pie and pretty much maxed out on my capacity for Irishness for the day.  We did not succeed at attending an event of Galway's Culture Night, and since the rest of the city shut down at 8 pm as most Irish cities do, we returned after a stroll along Galway bay to our quaint B&B to make plans for the following day.
